FASHIONISTA UNIVERSITY

www.fashionistauniversity.com, a whole new kind of education for the up-and-coming trendsetters of the fashion world.  We would love for you to spread the word and let all the teens, tweens and of course parents know about this amazing program by covering on your site and would gladly send you additional information or photos should you need.

 Starting this January, middle-school through college-aged students will have the opportunity to take a variety of “Saturday’s only”-seven week, hands on courses where they will learn the ins and outs of the fashion business including design, publicity, wardrobe styling/costume design, event planning, jewelry/accessory design and more. Run by fashion designers Kathlin Argiro and Courtney Zellmer and Publicity guru Gwen Wunderlich-Smith, Fashionista University gives students a Project Runway meets Gossip Girl real world approach, with celebrity, editor and guest designer appearances as well as access to fashion shows, showroom events, publishing houses, TV stations and more! Fashionista University provides tools teens need to turn their dreams into a reality and break in to the world of fashion with opportunities and experiences beyond anything they ever imagined. 

SAMPLE COURSES:

Fashion Design 101

Over the 7-week course students will get a firsthand account of running a small business in the fashion industry from designers Kathlin Argiro and Courtney Zellmer.  Students will learn how to create a collection from start to finish- from inspiration to presentation and everything in between using examples from Kathlin’s own collection, high-profile guest speakers, and actually take steps toward creating their own line.  Students will learn about fabrics and how to use them, color stories, sketching basic fashion figures, story boards and presenting a collection to learn more about themselves as first time designers.

P.R. Prep 101

Fashionistas who are on top of the latest trends and are interested in being a part of the buzz, glitz and glamour are perfect for this crash course in the exciting field of public relations.  Gwen Wunderlich of Wunderlich Inc. will help students begin their journey to becoming the next “it” publicist by sharing her expertise in the field, including her background of starting her own company from the ground up. Throughout the seven weeks, Gwen will introduce different aspects of the business that will help each student develop their PR skills and teach them the necessity of being connected.  Students can expect field trips to the city’s hottest spots including a trip to the fashionista holy land – New York Fashion Week.

For the first Winter semester starting Saturday January 16th 2010, Fashionista University is offering these two separate classes above allowing students to focus on where their true passion lies, or participate in both courses giving them the ability to gain a better understanding of different aspects of each  industry.  The Spring Semester featuring additional courses starts March 20th 2010. La Moda Otoño/Invierno 2009-2010

Continuando con las tendencias de la moda para la temporada invernal del 2009 y 2010, tenemos los siguientes estilos:

Textura: Este estilo se caracteriza por la arquitectura contemporánea, con estructuras de cristal y principios matemáticos. La geometría se encuentra en el corazón de este mismo estilo. La plasticidad, los engarces, la costura, la decoración en tres dimensiones, los dibujos y los modelos se ven con fuerza. Se combinan colores ultravioleta con negro y hematita, además de las formas geométricas que nos rememoran esos edificios modernos de color negro con cristales de amatista, en violeta. Las piezas de metal se combinan con las grandes piedras.

 

Dreamland: Este estilo, evocador del surrealismo, del sueño de fantasía y el juego son los principales elementos que lo componen. Se combinan las texturas y los materiales sintéticos con materiales de alta tecnología, superficies brillantes y acabados láser. Sobresalen los brillos neón y los reflejos metálicos. Los piercings, las piedras y las piezas de metal son parte esencial de este estilo.

 

Rock: De líneas rectas, volumen y contrastes que combina estructuras finas y toscas. A partir de los grises, se consigue un acabado de apariencia natural que asemeja a las piedras en bruto y a las piedras pulidas. Todas las combinaciones tienen un efecto casual que atraen.

 

Petite: Este estilo combina el oliva oscuro, neón, enebro, musgo y amarillo a la sombra de la cáscara de limón confitada que vendría a refrescar la temporada otoñal. Los detalles son finos, la luminosidad y los reflejos son parte esencial de este estilo.

 

Dubai Fashion Week marked for April!

 2009 Autumn/WinterDubai, UAE, 11 February, 2009: Organisers of Dubai Fashion Week (DFW), Concept Events, today announced details about the Autumn/Winter 2009 (AW09) season to be showcased between April 5th – 9th this year.

 

DFW, which will once again be held in the Godolphin Ballroom, Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai, is set to cement Dubai’s position in the global fashion arena, whilst simultaneously propelling local and regional talent into the industry foray.

 

With over 30 designers staking their claim to DFW’s catwalk to-date, the AW09 show is bound to be more scintillating with entries including Walid Atallah, Reem Ali Beljafla, HSY, Hatem Alakeel, Amal Murad, Salma Khan and Mariam Al Mazro. Collections will range from couture to prêt à porter.

 

“DFW is now in its 5th season and the regional and local fashion industry is once again buzzing with anticipation. Last season the designers showed the media, fashion retail buyers, and fashion-consumers just how much talent exists in the Middle East”, said Aldrin Fernandes, Chairman, Concept Group. “We are thrilled by the interest and awareness this event is generating and look forward to another showcase of fantastic collections.”

 

Dubai Fashion Week is the region’s flagship fashion trade event and focuses on offering retail buyers, fashion professionals and media an exclusive preview of the season’s upcoming collections and trends, thus generating publicity and revenue for the fashion industry.

Primavera - Verano 2009

     La próxima temporada primavera – verano 2009 tendrá como principal estrella al color luminoso en los tonos rosas, rojos y amarillos. La nueva tendencia consistirá en combinar blusas y chaquetas rojas con pantalones rosas o amarillos, o viceversa. Además, para el próximo año 2009, el color violeta y todas sus variedades se llevarán en la ropa y accesorios (carteras, zapatos, collares, pulseras).   Aunque, no se dejará de lado los típicos blancos y cremas que simbolizan la llegada del verano.El vestido será el gran protagonista para resaltar las curvas femeninas, volverá a imponerse la moda de los años 60 y 70: blusas, faldas, camisas y túnicas con motivos de flores y bordados. Muchos estampados lucirán como manchas o algo confusos, esto te dará un look atrevido y divertido.model.png Los pantalones, entre modelos capris y pescadores, se pueden usar anchos y ya no tan apretados, lo cual permitirá una gran comodidad a la hora de andar y las piernas se sentirán más libres. Una mixtura entre lo formal y deportivo, lo simple y complejo, y lo glamoroso es el estilo que se llevará el próximo año. Los leggins continuarán usándose la próxima temporada y no olvidar que se acerca la moda oriental con colores vivos y ropa de seda. La ropa y los accesorios de fiesta seguirá llevándose de colores brillantes como el dorado y el plateado. Respecto a los materiales textiles estos serán muy frescos, como el algodón, la seda, el lino y el nylon. En cuanto a los trajes de noche, vuelven con fuerza las faldas clásicas, con encajes y glamorosas; estas pueden usarse para un evento formal, en el trabajo o para una salida nocturna. Las faldas pegadas al cuerpo son largas hasta llegar debajo de las rodillas, esto favorece la silueta de las mujeres esbeltas.
