Agave Thursday was not all tequila with style, waitresses serving bocaditas with exquisite authentic Mexican flavor and the best music by DJ Gil Barba.  Guests also received scoring/comment cards and Diego pens to rate their favorite tequila and go on a tequila tasting buffet!.  Guests were fortunate enough to taste great tequilas such as: Patron, Tres Generaciones, Tequila 1519 and Penca Azul..to name a few. After a while you need that comments card to remember what you tasted!

The night toped off with a Jack Daniels guitar auctioned off to a lucky bidder.  Great food, smooth tequila and best tequila atmosphere, all thanks to Diego at the MGM.

Senor Rio Tequila - One Bottle at a Time

Senor Rio

GILBERT, AZ – Recently, local entrepreneurs, Jonathan Gach and Debbie Medina, began introducing their ultra-premium tequila, Senor Rio, throughout Arizona.  Despite triple digit temperatures and a sluggish economy, this pair of sweethearts is living their dream – one bottle at a time.

What makes this tequila so unique?  It all began when Debbie was reunited with her father after 30 years and learned of the secret distilling process and recipe that dates back over 200 years in her family’s history.   Her father’s desire was for Debbie to continue the long- standing tradition of producing high quality tequila. The name, Senor Rio, is in honor of her father.  The laser etching, showcased in the glass stopper, portrays him in his prime.  Now approaching 80 and living in Mexico, he is very proud to have his family’s tequila shared by all.

Two years ago, when Jonathan and Debbie left their respective careers in search of a master distiller throughout the state of Jalisco, Mexico; they literally poured their hearts and souls, along with many tears and all of their personal funds, into this venture.  As a result of this labor of love, Senor Rio was born on Cinco de Mayo in the little town of Tequila, Mexico. The first shipment arrived at their warehouse in Gilbert, Arizona on May 29th.   Juan Jamie’s Tacos and Tequila in Chandler became the first establishment to serve all three styles – Blanco, Reposado and Anejo.

The beautiful crystal decanter, designed by Jonathan, that houses the “smooth as silk” spirit, just won a bronze medal at the Los Angeles Wine and Spirit competition.

As they drive throughout Arizona in the Senor Rio jeep – one establishment at a time, one order at a time, one day at a time – they know that people will appreciate what they are offering …very fine tequila.

Senor Rio tequila is a quality product and quality sells!  Through complimentary Senor Rio tequila tasting and a variety of promotions, they will help establishments grow as they grow.

TEQUILA OCHO UNVEILS 2009 VINTAGE IN TIME FOR CINCO DE MAYO

First Single-Estate Tequila in the United States Gaining Steam

Corona del Mar, California (March 1, 2009) - Altamar Brands, LLC announced today that Tequila Ocho, the first ultra-premium single estate vintage tequila to be introduced to the United States market, is releasing its 2009 vintage in time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Both the Plata and Reposado varieties from Las Pomez are available now. The 2009 vintage of Añejo from El Carrizal, which is aged for a full year, will be released in July.

“To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, we recommend you do so the way our family would: over a lovely dinner. Enjoy Ocho as an aperitif to stimulate the palate, followed by a perfect pairing with a cheese course, seafood and as a compliment to aged meat,” says Tomas Estes.

Tequila Ocho is the product of collaboration between third generation Tequilero Felipe Camarena and Tomas Estes, Ambassador of Tequila to Europe. What differentiates Ocho from other tequilas and makes it unique in its category is its rarity. Because of the time it takes an agave to mature, each estate cannot be replenished for almost ten years after each harvest, thus making each vintage of Ocho a rare and collectable tequila. Ocho was launched on August 8, 2008 in California, and the first vintage was sold out in less than six months.

What Is Tequilla?

Tequila is Mexico’s national spirit. Like all other alcoholic products, it is derived from fermentable sugar. But tequila is unique in that its source of sugar is the Blue Agave plant.

Much like cognac, which can only be produced in the Cognac region of France, tequila must be produced within certain designated areas of Mexico, most notably, the State of Jalisco. The spirit takes its name from the colonial town of Tequila

 FACTS
  • Tequila is produced from blue agave, grown and harvested in the region of Tequila, Mexico. Agave is a very versatile plant. In addition to making a beverage, native Indians made rope, clothing and medicine from the agave leaves.
  • Tequila was first produced in the 16th century by the Aztecs.
  • The blue agave, part of the lily family, is native to Mexico and can grow up to 15 feet.
  • Tequila is the first indigenous spirits distilled in North America.According to Mexican law only the blue agave spirit bottled in the Tequila Region of Mexico can be labeled as tequila.
  • Premium Tequila is derived from agave plants grown seven to ten years.Tequila is bottled in one of four categories: blanco (white) or silver; reposado (rested); añejo (aged); and extra añejo (extra aged).During the aging process, Tequila will change color. Some companies opt to add caramel for a darker color. However, the color in premium Tequila comes naturally with the aging process.
Classifications

The NOM standard defines four types of tequila:

Blanco or Silver
This is the traditional tequila that started it all. Clear and transparent, fresh from the still tequila is called Blanco (white or silver) and must be bottled immediately after the distillation process. It has the true bouquet and flavor of the blue agave. It is usually strong and is traditionally enjoyed in a "caballito" (2 oz small glass).

Oro or Gold
Is tequila Blanco mellowed by the addition of colorants and flavorings, caramel being the most common. It is the tequila of choice for frozen Margaritas.

Reposado or Rested
It is Blanco that has been kept (or rested) in white oak casks or vats called "pipones" for more than two months and up to one year. The oak barrels give Reposado a mellowed taste, pleasing bouquet, and its pale color. Reposado keeps the blue agave taste and is gentler to the palate. These tequilas have experienced exponential demand and high prices.

Añejo or Aged
It is Blanco tequila aged in white oak casks for more than a year. Maximum capacity of the casks should not exceed 600 liters (159 gallons). The amber color and woody flavor are picked up from the oak, and the oxidation that takes place through the porous wood develops the unique bouquet and taste.

Reserva
Although not a category in itself, it is a special Añejo that certain distillers keep in oak casks for up to 8 years. Reserva enters the big leagues of liquor both in taste and in price.
